Like most people, the first time you heard of the Law of Attraction was probably in the 2007 movie, The Secret. If you know anything about really deciding, setting goals, the spiritual laws of success and the Universe, you will know that the Law of Attraction as presented in The Secret is utter bullshit.
What Is the Law of Attraction?
Basically the Law of Attraction dictates that what you think about, you bring about. It’s like a magnet. You think of something and what you think about eventually comes into being.
The Secret provides an easy, three-step formula:
- Ask the Universe.
- Visualize what you want.
- Be outcome independent with whatever happens.
In order to give credence to its claims, The Secret even presents a quirky quantum physicist. This is to provide a scientific basis for why the Law of Attraction works.
Want a sports car? First, ask the Universe. Then, visualize yourself already in possession of the good that you desire. Fantasize yourself being in your sports car. Test drive the sports car so that when you visualize, you will be able to associate real, positive emotions in your visualizations. Do this enough and one day you will get that sports car.
Sounds great? Sure.
But the Secret leaves out quite a bit of things in between you still need to do. For starters, it’s missing something dead obvious: You have to take action.
You Have to Take Action
You have to work towards your goal. No one in this world will give you shit. The problem with The Secret is that gives viewers the idea that all you need to do is ask for something and somehow what you ask for will come into being. Worst yet, it gives viewers a sense of entitlement.
There are other things you have to practice, too. These are also called the spiritual laws of success or the 11 Forgotten Laws.
- Law of Thinking
- Law of Supply
- Law of Attraction
- Law of Receiving
- Law of Increase
- Law of Compensation
- Law of Non-Resistance
- Law of Forgiveness
- Law of Sacrifice
- Law of Obedience
- Law of Success
The Missing Link
You can see now why The Secret did such a huge disservice to viewers around the world. It is just a bunch of wish-washy nonsense, barely teaching its viewers how to achieve any semblance of success. It fails to teach viewers how to achieve goals. To really attain goals and achieve success, you have to practice and implement each and every spiritual law of success.
Note how that I keep referencing as bullshit “The Secret’s Law of Attraction”. The Law of Attraction is real and is one of the 11 spiritual laws of the universe. I believe in it. It’s just that the way it was presented in The Secret was incorrect.
The Law of Attraction works in conjunction with the Law of Thinking. We have to first monitor the mind speak that takes place in between our ears. For many people, when asked about their deepest desires, passions, and dreams, they will list off what they want more often than what they do not want.
Yet, if these very same people were to start paying attention to the random thoughts that enter their minds, they will quickly discover that more often than not they think about what they do not want rather than what they really want.
So, the Law of Thinking edicts that we first learn how to think. Most people do not think and mistake mental activity for thinking.
Who Do You Blame?
Be frank with yourself: Do you believe you are the play thing of your environment and circumstances? If it is the latter, then are you really thinking or just responding to stimuli in order to produce the same results that you have been getting day in and day out?
Moreover, do you acknowledge that the current circumstances in your life are a result of your very own doing or do you honestly believe it’s the people, government, or world around you that is responsible for what has happened and is still happening to you?
When you first realize that the only thing you can really change is yourself, that thought is like a lightning bolt. It shakes you to your very core.
With thinking comes the ability to focus and concentrate, the ability to reason, and the ability to control those thoughts with the precision of a laser. Then and only then can you start using the Law of Attraction much more effectively. Most of us honestly do not believe we are deserving of that which we desire. As a result, we continue to attract more of the same bullshit into our lives.
Of course, in order to actually get the sports car you have to have money. The tell us that we have to provide something of value to the world (Law of Receiving) in order to be duly compensated for the value we provide (Law of Compensation).
Additionally, The Secret’s other fault is that it makes getting things more materialistic than it is spiritual. Instead, it should have framed it this way: Goals are not about getting things. Goals are about growing.
Now you know why: The Secret’s Law of Attraction is utter bullshit. If you have been practicing the Law of Attraction, you can finally stop wondering why what you asked the Universe all those weeks, months, and years ago has yet to be delivered.
Of course, The Secret did do quite a bit of good, too. It opened people’s minds to the spiritual laws of the Universe. Knowing about the Law of Attraction is a good, first step towards helping people achieve their goals and go after what they really want.
In future articles, I will discuss the other spiritual laws, going into detail what they are and why they need to be followed in order to bring success and happiness into your life.
